Service Alert | Fares Reinstated 9/1/20

Standard bus fares will be reinstated beginning Tuesday, September 1, 2020.  This includes all bus routes, demand response and STARNow Mesquite.

Fares for STARNow Terrell, Kaufman and Balch Springs will remain free through the month of September.  This is part of a promotional time period associated with the launch of this service in those areas.

A reduced fare ID, exact cash or STAR Transit tickets (One ticket = $1) equaling the fare amount is required each time you board the bus. Drivers are not able to make change.  STARNow riders may use exact cash, tickets or debit/credit card via the app or Call Center.

Public Meeting | Service Changes in Kaufman, Terrell, Balch Springs

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that STAR Transit will hold two public meetings to involve citizen participation regarding service changes in Terrell, Kaufman and Balch Springs.  STAR Transit will provide information regarding revisions, additions, the STARNow App and fares.  Anyone wishing to make comments are invited to attend and express their views.

When:           Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Noon and 4:00 pm

In accordance with an Order of the Office of the Governor issued on March 16, 2020, to advance the public health goal limiting face-to-face meetings (also called “social distancing”), in an effort to slow the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, STAR Transit will conduct these meetings via phone/virtual conference.  The virtual meeting(s) are accessible in the following ways:

Service Alert | Limited schedule July 3 & July 4

Terrell, TX – STAR Transit announces limited schedule July 3 and July 4.

  • STAR Transit’s administrative offices will be closed Friday, July 3. This includes demand response service and STARNow.
  • The Balch Springs Midtown Express, the Seagoville Express, Hutchins Shuttle Route 401, DeSoto Route 501 and Mesquite COMPASS will operate regular schedules on Friday, July 3.
  • The Balch Springs Midtown Express’ Saturday service will not operate July 4.

STAR Transit is seeking public feedback

(Terrell, TX) – STAR Transit is seeking public feedback for their Transit Service Development Plan.  They partnered with Alliance Transportation Group to perform a comprehensive evaluation of services and to develop recommendations for potential system enhancements. A major component of this plan is the public engagement effort and STAR Transit is committed to gathering rider input that could be used to inform plan recommendations.

“STAR Transit is working to make transit better, and we want to hear from you.  Please take our brief survey to tell us about your experience and what you want to see from transit in the future. If you don’t currently use transit that’s ok, we want to hear from everyone,” said Tommy Henricks, STAR Transit Executive Director.

The digital version of the survey will remain open through this summer.  In addition, STAR Transit plans to conduct on-board surveys.  The agency continues to monitor health and safety conditions and will schedule when safe for passengers and staff.

Service Alert | 4/9/20 | STAR Transit Waiving Bag Limit; Allowing Curbside Pickup

We are temporarily waiving the bag limit normally in place for shopping trips.  This waiver also applies to rides to food pantries and share centers.  For the protection of our riders and drivers, all items must be contained in bags and/or boxes and secured in one of the following ways:

  • Under the seat of the rider where it can be secured by the rider’s feet.
  • Held in the rider’s lap.
  • Seat belted in a seat.

Rolling carts are allowed, as long as items are contained within the cart.  Rolling carts do not include wagons or grocery carts.

In addition to temporarily waiving the bag limit, we will provide transportation to riders utilizing contactless shopping services.  This gives riders the option to buy products online and pick them up at their local retailer.

Service Alert | STARNow Mesquite temporarily changes service hours

Effective Monday, 4/6, STARNow Mesquite’s service hours will temporarily change from 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM to 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. This change is for same day service only. Demand Response hours will remain 6:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday – Friday.

HOW TO SCHEDULE A RIDE:

  1. Download the STARNow mobile app from the Apple App store and Google Play store.
  2. Open the STARNow app on your mobile device.
  3. Tap on the “Where to?” box and select your drop-off location by searching for a point-of-interest or address. When selecting your pickup spot you can use your current location (the default) or enter your pickup location/address manually.
  4. Add additional passengers or request accessibility features by tapping on the “Passenger” or “Wheelchair” icons.
  5. If you want to schedule your trip in advance, select a later time by tapping “Schedule” in the lower right corner. Trips can only be scheduled for the same day.
  6. Choose to add a credit card and pay for your trip in the app or select cash and pay on the vehicle.
  7. Review your estimated pickup and drop-off time and tap “Request Ride” when ready.

Once a trip is created, riders will receive real-time updates via text or app notifications and can track vehicle location and estimated arrival time in the STARNow app.

SERVICE ALERT | Temporarily Suspending Kaufman Trolley and Terrell Route 803

SERVICE ALERT: Effective April 6, we are temporarily suspending Terrell Bus Route 803 and the Kaufman Trolley until further notice.

Service Alert | STAR Transit To Observe Easter Weekend
