Rider Alert | COVID-19 UPDATE | 4/2/20

STAR Transit continues providing essential trips and advanced cleaning practices in response to COVID-19

STAR Transit continues to operate service in order to provide essential transportation in the service area.  The service area includes, Kaufman County, Rockwall County, and cities of Seagoville, Balch Springs, Mesquite, Hutchins and DeSoto.  STAR Transit will travel outside the service area for medical trips.

Heightened safety features have been implemented to comply with directives to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

STAR Transit encourages everyone who can stay at home to do so. Those who need to go to stores, medical appointments and those who must report to essential jobs continue to have the vital service of STAR Transit to get them where they need to go.

Transportation has been deemed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as essential critical infrastructure and STAR Transit will continue to provide service during this time of critical social distancing and remaining in place.

In compliance with the disaster proclamation from Governor Abbott, STAR Transit personnel are still reporting for duty; support staff are working remotely.

Effective Tuesday, March 17 and until further notice, the agency has waived fares. This encourages distance between operators and customers and reduces the contact with money and fare boxes.

Social distancing is being enforced by limiting seating on vehicles and limiting the number of customers per vehicle.

The Fleet Department has intensified cleaning and disinfecting efforts. All vehicle interior surfaces are  sprayed daily with an EPA certified disinfectant and “spot” cleaned throughout the day. Also, common areas at the administrative offices are being cleaned multiple times daily.

Drivers have been provided hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, and are equipped with disinfecting spray to use throughout their shifts.

Updates on STAR Transit service and efforts can be found at www.STARtransit.org or by contacting the Call Center at 877-631-5278. Schedulers are available Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.  Updates on service are also posted on STAR Transit’s Facebook page and via Instagram.
